MAHAO MURDER TRIAL TO CONTINUE 

Maseru, Apr. 04 — A case in which members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) are charged with the murder of Maaparankoe Mahao has been scheduled to continue on Wednesday next week. 

The court has in this matter recently heard evidence from Former Commissioner of Police Mr. Khothatso Tsooana who took a stand as a 14th witness. 

The witness has in his evidence, among others, alleged that Former Army Commander Tlali Kamoli, who is one of the accused in the matter, planned the death of the deceased. He also told the court about sour relations between him and Kamoli while he was the head of the police service.  

The witness indicated that Kamoli refused to cooperate with the police when they requested him to surrender some army members and guns involved in criminal activities. 

The witness was during cross-examination accused by the defence of being an untrustworthy witness. It was stated that in his evidence, he said nothing relevant to the trial. It was added that what he said were political stunts intended to reflect the views of members of All Basotho Convention (ABC). 

The accused in the matter are alleged to have shot and killed the deceased on June 25 2015 at Ha Lekete in Mokema.  They are also facing several other charges in relation to this matter.        

The prosecution is in this matter is represented by Advocates Rethabile Setlojoane and Lehlohonolo Phooko while the defence team is made up of Advocates Qhalehang Letsika, Silas Ratau, Napo Mafaesa, Kabelo Letuka and Letuka Molati.     

The case is before Justice Charles Hungwe.
