10-KILOMETER RADIUS TO CONTROL ANTHRAX OUTBREAKS

Maseru, April 09 — Following sporadic outbreaks of Anthrax in the country the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition through its Department of Livestock has suspended the movement of Anthrax-susceptible animals.

The Department has released the statement suspending the movement of Anthrax-susceptible animals which include cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, horses and donkeys within a 10 kilometre radius of the affected areas.

The Department of Livestock indicated that those measures will remain in effect until the outbreak is fully contained.     

Furthermore they noted that all internal animal movement permits within the affected zones will only be issued by the respective District Veterinary Officers, based on thorough risk assessment. MM/TL
