LCS DECLINES COMMENTING ON OMBUDSMAN REPORT

Maseru, Mar. 25 — Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) Management says it cannot comment on the Ombudsman report regarding inmates who were alleged to have been ill-treated by LCS Officers during a search exercise that was conducted in December last year.

LCS Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Pheko Ntobane told the Agency in an interview that the management will only comment after the National Commission of Enquiry has also presented a report with regard to this matter.

Amongst other issues in the report, which was unpacked by Ombudsman of Lesotho Adv. Tlotliso Polaki before the media a few days ago include LCS management failure to provide training to correctional officers prior to commencing duties at the LCS as the report indicates that the recruits who were alleged to have ill-treated the inmates have been in service for more than five years but were still at Correctional Staff Training School to undergo training. . .
