Maseru, Apr. 04 — Many families across Lesotho are bracing for the outcome of the recently enacted Administration of Estates and Inheritance Bill, 2024. The legislation, which transfers jurisdiction over inheritance matters solely to the Master of the High Court is poised to pose significant challenges for numerous households, particularly those with limited financial means.
Speaking with the Agency on Thursday, Mr. Rabuka Chalatsi, representing the Judicial Commissioners Court, shed light on the far-reaching implications of the Bill.
He stated that the shift in authority means that inheritance disputes will no longer be adjudicated at local courts, a departure from previous practices.
Mr. Chalatsi further highlighted the financial burden imposed by the new requirement for legal representation in cases before the Master of the High Court, a cost out of reach for many citizens.
