Maseru, July 10 — Acting Principals from Mohale’s Hoek district convened at Teaching Service, Maseru on Thursday in demand for their acting positions allowances.
On behalf of the delegation, Acting Principal at Thaba Putsoa Primary School, Mr. Fako Tau said while other principals from different primary and high schools have gotten their allowances, while those of Mohale’s Hoek have not been paid.
“Some have acted for more than five years without any allowance yet proper channels for us to assume these acting positions were followed,” he said.
In response, Teaching Service Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Phaee Monaheng-Mariti mentioned that the allowances are supposed to have been paid in April.
However, she stipulated that shortage of funds is forcing them to re-strategise and are now exploring best ways to deal with this matter.
However, she assured Teachers that their Financial Controller is working tirelessly to try and establish how best to handle and resolve this matter amicably.
She appealed to Teachers to bear with them as they are trying all they can to make sure that even those who have suffered for years are attended to.
Asked how much is owed to the complainants, Director Human Resource, Ms. Rets’epile Lenkoane mentioned that it is not easy to say as allowances differ depending on one’s salary and first notch.
Teaching Service is a Department under the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) aimed at dealing with issues pertaining to Teachers.
