LOCAL FARMERS ON WHEAT BLOCK FARMING

Mafeteng, July 10 — At least 244 local farmers are currently engaged in wheat block farming at Ha Maolela within Metsi-Maholo Community Council.

The initiative has attracted farmers from various villages within the above mentioned area. It was started mid July and ended at the end of July 31, 2023 with the aim of reducing poverty by increasing agricultural production in the district through crop production.

In an interview with the District Crop Production Officer, Mr. Retselisitsoe Rabeisi said the activity which is initiated by the government of Lesotho through the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition is intended to encourage farmers to engage in massive production with the aim of fighting for food insecurity while at the same time encouraging commercial production for income generation.
