ADMINSITRATION OF ESTATES, INHERITANCE BILL REPEALS CUSTOMARY LAW HEIR

Maseru, March 13 – The Administration of Estates and Inheritance Bill, 2024 objectives are to abolish customary law heir, introduce the inheritance of a female child as well as introduce inheritance of siblings regardless of age or gender on all equal basis- all siblings inherit equally.

In the report tabled by the Portfolio Committee on Law and Public Safety Cluster chairperson Mr. Mothofela Ramakatsa in the National Assembly also aims to introduce inheritance of children born out of wedlock from their fathers where there is proof of maintenance.

Furthermore, the Bill also introduces inheritance under customary law-polygamous and non –polygamous marriage or union and that it seeks to bestow upon every person a right or freedom to write a will or written instructions. . .
