ANTHRAX OUTBREAK IN THREE DISTRICTS

Maseru, Apr. 03 — Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition has warned the public of an Anthrax outbreak in three districts of Botha-Bothe, Qholaqhoe, Leribe, Likhakeng and Maseru, Ha Matala.

Mr. Thabo Mofosi announced this on Thursday where he said according to the ministry’s veterinary department, this is a very deadly disease which can affect people and animals.

He said Anthrax is usually caused by Bacillus anthracis bacteria which is found naturally in soil. 

He noted that people usually get sick with anthrax if they come in contact with infected animals or contaminated animal products. He added that people can breathe in anthrax spores, eat food or drink water contaminated with spores, or get spores in a cut or scrape in the skin. AT/TL
