BASOTHO SHOW UP AT THE STATE FUNERAL

Maseru, May 10 — Scores of Basotho convened at Maseru club today, Friday to pay their last respects to the  late Political figure and former Marematlou Freedom Party (MFP) Leader, Mr. Moeketse Vincent  Malebo (92).

The Head of State and his government, retired officials, Parliamentarians and Diplomats were all there to send their goodbyes to the deceased who is reported to have died of ‘Sudden Cardiac Arrest’.

Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) was also there to grace the burial service with worship hymns as well as give the deceased the honour he deserves after serving the country  since age  24.

The State burial service commenced with a service led by Lesotho Evangelical Church of Southern Africa (LECSA) President of the Synod, Reverend Mojaki Kometsi.

According to Reverend Kometsi, as the country commemorates 200 years, the need for Basotho to learn from Mr. Malebo’s foot steps is vital for Lesotho’s progression.

“We are blessed and lucky to have lived with him and his legacy as a servant to the King’s government will never go unnoticed”. He stressed.

Therefore, he appealed to the nation to learn from the deceased as part of commemorating 200 years as well as remembering the late Minister of Justice, Parliamentarian and Diplomat amongst others.

One of his grand children, ‘Mabahlakoana Mosola said her grand father will be remembered for the deep sense of love as well as his love for education.

Chief Lerotholi Seeiso on behalf of the Principal Chief of Matsieng also delivered his condolences, saying the deceased was a legend of time, thus his efforts while serving Lesotho should serve as a way of comfort to all, particularly to the family of Malebo.

To many, the deceased who was also Chief of Protocol, an Interpreter, a  proper Teacher, a Singer and one with an uncompromising  character against corruption happening in both government and private sector, a matter that became  public knowledge while Mr. Malebo was Chairing Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the National Assembly previously.

Over and above that, the Agency established that the deceased is also said to have played a pivotal role during colonial era. 

The deceased is the first child in a family of seven. He is reported to have been born in Boqate on  November 26, 1931. He did his Primary and high school in Boqate after which he also studied at Basotholand Training College in Morija and also holds Diploma in Public Administration and is known as an Interpreter as well.

Mr. Malebo led the  launch of state radio in 1964 and was Director of Information and broadcasting. He was married to the late Mrs. ‘Malipalesa. He survived by five children, three siblings and grandchildren . His remains will be laid to rest at Kokobela village later today.
