MASERU – A few days ahead of Spring, a Local Historian has called Basotho locally and diaspora to celebrate the Basotho New Year beyond the month of August.
“We owe it to ourselves to keep the momentum beyond 200 years. It is through dedicated months such as August that we can be revised and remember not to lose track,” Mr. Rethabile Ncheme has said.
According to the Historian, the month coinciding with women’s month is not just about preparing for summer cropping but all about introspection, reunion and rebuilding relations amongst ‘Bana ba Thari,’ otherwise Morena Moshoeshoe I descendants.
He stipulated that a number of activities which have been undertaken throughout the month, from cultural gatherings to social activities in different parts of the country are a testament that ‘Kaofela Re Chabana Sa Khomo.’
Therefore, Mr. Ncheme urged Basotho to keep up the pace, show each other support in their different spheres for growth and development of oneness in the country as well as for various progresses.
These sentiments come at the time when the Minister of Arts, Mr. Motlatsi Maqelepo commended a local youth creative group known as ‘Sotho Kids,’ who showcased Basotho culture and heritage in the international community – Europe recently…AM/BM
