BOTHA-BOTHE CELEBRATES BREASTFEEDING WEEK

Botha-Bothe, Aug. 08 — Various stakeholders in Botha-Bothe gathered at Ha Bafokeng today to commemorate World Breastfeeding Week.

Ha Bafokeng was chosen for the event as it is one of the villages struggling with high rates of child malnutrition. The Ministry of Health deemed it fitting to host the celebration there to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding.

Speaking at the event, Maternal and Sexual Reproductive Health Nurse, Mrs. Mamosebi Tumane, said this year’s theme emphasizes that breastfeeding must be prioritized due to its critical role in a child’s growth and overall well-being.

“The theme also highlights that breastfeeding mothers must be supported by their families and all stakeholders to ensure children are well-nourished,” she said. “Stakeholders should therefore come up with long-term plans and policies that provide continuous support to breastfeeding mothers.”
