Mafeteng, August 08 — Exclusive breastfeeding for six months after delivery is important for newborns so that they grow healthy to promote strong bodies.
The Nutritionist from the Ministry of Health, Mrs. ‘Malefume Khants’i said this to breastfeeding mothers to commemorate International Breastfeeding Week at Thaba-Tsoeu Health Facility on Thursday where she said a well breastfed infant is always happy and is not easily attacked by diseases.
She notified them that they should at least breastfeed infants for two years or more without mixing with other food but only breast milk as it contains all nutrients needed by young body, saying introduction of soft food at early stage is dangerous.
She further advised breastfeeding mothers to ensure breastfeed newborns colostrum as it is the first vaccine to fight diseases that might attack an infants.
