Maseru, Aug. 11 — As part of its measures to ensure prevention of monkeypox (mpox) throughout the world, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has this week asked manufactures of the mpox vaccines to submit an Expression of Interest for Emergency Use Listing (EUL).
According to a statement from WHO, the EUL procedure is ‘an emergency use authorisation process, specifically developed to expedite the availability of unlicensed medical products like vaccines that are needed in public health emergency situations’.
It states that the request for the submission of the data is intended to ensure that the vaccines are safe and effective. It adds that the aim is to also ensure that they are of assured quality and suitable for the target populations.
“Granting of an EUL will accelerate vaccine access particularly for those lower-income countries which have not yet issued their own national regulatory approval”, says the statement.
