Qacha’sNek,Aug. 11 — Tragedy struck Mr. Tanki Leboea, a farmer from Ha Motloang, Lebakeng when a wildfire ravaged his flock burning 45 of his sheep.
During the incident 17 died instantly, while 24 had to be slaughtered due to severe burns, leaving only four survivors.
Mr. Leboea who originally had 100 animals, faces this loss amidst a wave of escalating wildfires in the district, where many are already vulnerable due to poverty and degraded land.
Reports show that some individuals intentionally set fires, either in the belief that burning encourages the growth of green grass or to facilitate livestock theft.
