Maseru, Oct. 21 — The Principal Chief of Mamathe, Sempe Khabasheane Masupha, has tabled an urgent motion before the House of Senate calling on the Government of Lesotho to take immediate steps to protect the health and wellbeing of its citizens, particularly the youth, by banning the sale, distribution, and use of hubbly-bubbly across the country.
Chief Masupha expressed deep concern over the growing popularity of hubbly-bubbly among young people, warning that it poses serious health risks and could have long-term consequences on their future. He emphasised that “these are the leaders of tomorrow,” stressing that addiction to such substances can be difficult to overcome once it takes hold.
This call comes at a time when alarming reports have surfaced of some school learners being found in possession of hubbly substances, raising fears that the trend is spreading quickly among minors.
Senator Makholu Moshoeshoe, who seconded the motion, strongly supported the call, saying it is important to trace and take action against those who sell hubbly products, urging that “we must get to the bottom of this issue and destroy the sources.”
