BEREA — The Area Chief of Mapoteng, Chieftainess ‘Makhoboso Peete, together with the Chief of Ha ‘Maloela, Chief Taeboso Lesaoana, convened a community gathering on Tuesday to launch a strategic nutrition initiative. This initiative stems from a directive by His Majesty King Letsie III, who serves as the African Union Nutrition Champion.
According to the Area Technical Nutritionist Ms. Ntefeleng Tsolo explained that the King as the has tasked local chiefs with educating their communities on proper nutrition, engaging with nutrition clubs, and ensuring the continuity and sustainability.
Ms. Tsolo said that the ministry of Agriculture was mandated to lead this initiative through its network of nutrition clubs hence they now have to partner with the chiefs to reach the goal.
She highlighted that most abandoned arable fields are owned by individuals who can no longer afford to farm them. These fields, she noted, will be made available to those willing and able to farm them productively to beat hunger and unemployment.
“As a nutritionist, I always encourage people to be hands-on. This project will not only improve food security but also reduce crime, as it gives people meaningful work,” Tsolo said
She emphasized the importance of chief involvement, saying their active participation sets a powerful example and motivates community members to take part. . .
