CHIEFTAINESS LELUMA URGES YOUTH TO BE CREATIVE

Maseru, April 24 — The Area Chief of Thetsane, Chieftainess ‘Mamajara Leluma has strongly called youth to be creative, especially at this time when this group is facing unemployment challenges.

Speaking with the agency, Chieftainess Leluma who is also an artisan surviving by making jewelry amongst others, reiterated that the tourism sector has potential of unlocking new opportunities  for the creatives and growing the economy.

She said that Lesotho has talent, adding if she is able to create unique and locally made handmade items or products through a combination of traditional tactics, the need to appreciate what Lesotho has to offer in this industry is vital.

She explained that she often attends exhibitions in different malls locally including selling to locals and tourists in different parts of the country, who are otherwise interested in the type of products she makes.

“Together, we can come up with a wide range of products including not limited to furniture which is already happening in different parts of the country and of course not limited to what I already do and many more,” she said.

Therefore, she has called on the youth, especially those in her area who are interested in this type of work to come on board so that together greater goals can be achieved.

The Travel and Tourism Economic Impact Report in Lesotho – 2018 has shown that tourism is a growing sector in Lesotho contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.

In 2013, the report shows that travel and tourism had contributed nearly 4.4 percent to the GDP and it was projected to increase to 6.1 percent by 2024.
