Maseru, Mar. 08 – The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Lesotho, His Excellency Yang Xiaokun, has described the three-day 116-kilometre Moshoeshoe’s Walk from Menkhoaneng to Thaba-Bosiu as more than a simple hiking activity, but a journey of deep historical and spiritual significance to the Basotho nation.
Ambassador Yang made the remarks in a special interview with the Lesotho News Agency (LENA) during the annual Moshoeshoe’s Walk, where members of the Chinese Embassy staff, representatives of the Chinese business community living in Lesotho and the Chinese Medical Team joined and participated in the historic event.
He said the walk represents a journey deeply rooted in the soul of the Basotho nation.
“Walking along the path once taken by King Moshoeshoe I, who led his people through hardship and external threats with wisdom, courage and unity, one can truly feel the resilience and dignity that define Lesotho,” he said.
Ambassador Yang noted that this year’s Moshoeshoe’s Walk carries special significance as Lesotho prepares to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its independence.
He said the six decades reflect years of safeguarding sovereignty and dignity, resilience in the face of challenges and development driven by determination, describing the Basotho spirit as strong, proud and unshakable like Thaba-Bosiu itself.
The Ambassador further indicated that Basotho people have continued to demonstrate unity and resilience even amid global uncertainties and external pressures.
“That spirit of standing together, remaining calm and determined deeply resonates with us. In China, we commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Victory of the Long March. The Long March was a journey of survival and faith marked by unimaginable hardships, but the Chinese people never gave up,” he said.
He added that although the histories of the two nations are different, they share the same spirit of perseverance and unity.
“When a people are united, no mountain is too high. When a nation believes in itself, no road is too long,” he noted…
