Maseru, May 31 — The Commission of inquiry investigating the escape of inmates at Maseru Central Correctional Institution (MCCI) and the torture of others has adjourned due to electrical fault today, Friday.
This was confirmed by the Commission Chairman, Justice Realeboha Mathaba who indicated that this problem relating to electrical earth leakage is expected to be resolved in due course.
He noted that he and his team have received a detailed report pertaining to the faulty earth leakage, adding it has been procured and shall be installed.
“Once this challenge is attended to, hearing evidence proceedings will commence,” he stressed.
He appealed to those interested in the deliberations of the Commission to be alert as processes will start once the matter is attended to.
This Commission is meant to amongst others investigate the orchestrated plan by 40 Lesotho Correctional Services (LCS) recruits pertaining to their torture and abuse of power to inmates as according to Ombudsman Advocate Tlotliso Polaki’s report.
Findings of the Commission will be compiled in a report form for publication purposes, indicating findings and solutions as well as recommendations with regard to rectifying the state of affairs at MCCI.
