COURT DENIES STOCK THEFT SUSPECTS BAIL

Mohales’Hoek, March 26 — The district magistrate court has for the second time denied bail application of one Chabeli Ramositli (47) and Likhang Molise (40) from Liphiring Majakaneng and Mabalane respectively and remanded the case to June 06.

When citing reasons for denying bail, court stated that by virtue of having been a herdboy of police livestock for a long time, accused Ramositli is expected to be a law abiding citizen, due to his previous records of convictions.

The court articulated that Ramositli has a previous record, (CR:258/17), in which the latter was found in possession of 6 lambs and was sentenced to 1 year imprisonment or to pay M1000.00 fine, but half of the sentence was suspended for a year.

Evidence before the court shows that upon or about February 20 at Liphiring, Sekoting, both suspects sharing a common purpose on intention, unlawfully and intentionally had in their possession 3 sheep hidden in a shark without satisfactory documentation and the Agency has learned the sheep were covered with a blankets and that they belong to one farmer in RSA.

The accused are being charged with contravening Section 13 of Stock Theft Act No:4 of 2000 as amended by Section 13 (b) (3) d, of Stock Theft amendment Act No:5 of 2003, read with Section 14 thereof.

The case is before Magistrate Selebeleng Selebeleng and ‘Mats’episo Masithela for Crown Counsel.
