Maseru, Feb. 13 — The High Court through Justice Tseliso Mokoko has directed that Reli Letuka of Khohlo-Ntso, Bokong in Thaba-Tseka be taken for psychiatric evaluation after he was found guilty of stabbing to death his 3 year-old son 21 times.
The court stated that the manner in which the accused stabbed the deceased shows that something might be wrong with him. It indicated that sentencing will therefore be deferred to March 13, 2025 in order to allow the evaluation to take place.
The same court had on Monday, when the case commenced ruled that the accused is fit to stand trial. This was following an application that he be taken for psychiatric evaluation to determine if he is fit to stand the trial as the prosecution and the defence suspected that he is mentally unstable.
The court reached the conclusion that the accused is fit after it conducted its own inquiry by asking him some questions regarding his name, age, occupation and marital status among others.
