CTO DONATES  FOOD PARCELS TO SCHOOLS DURING CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS EVENT

Berea, April 24 — About 100 food parcels were distributed to five schools that attended the Cyber Security Awareness event held at Zenon High School in Sefikeng on Friday, courtesy of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO).

Speaking in an interview with the Agency, the Public Affairs Manager at the Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA), Ms. Mothepane Kotele explained that the donation is aimed at supporting vulnerable learners while promoting inclusive participation in digital awareness initiatives.

She said that the food parcels which comprise full school uniforms, toiletries and food groceries, will be distributed among 20 students from each of the five participating schools.

Ms. Kotele mentioned that the initiative seeks to ensure that learners from disadvantaged backgrounds are not left behind in programmes that promote digital literacy and cybersecurity awareness.

She noted that providing essential items such as uniforms and basic necessities helps to restore dignity and confidence among learners, enabling them to fully participate in school activities.

She further highlighted that the partnership with the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation reflects a shared commitment to community upliftment

particularly in rural and underserved areas.

She added that such initiatives complement efforts to bridge both the digital divide and socio-economic challenges faced by many families.

Ms. Kotele also indicated that the gesture is part of broader corporate social responsibility programmes undertaken by the LCA and its partners, aimed at improving the welfare of learners while advancing access to information and communication technologies.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the assistance will go a long way in easing the burden on their families and improving their school experience.

The distribution of the food parcels formed part of activities surrounding the cybersecurity awareness event, which brought together students, educators and stakeholders to promote safe and responsible use of digital platforms.
