CWAAP INTRODUCED TO TEAM

Mokhotlong, March 26 — The Cold Wave Anticipatory Action Plan (CWAAP) was introduced to members of the District Disaster Management Team (DDMT) at a meeting held in the district on Wednesday.

The introduction was done by the Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS) Operations and Disaster Management Manager, Ms. Sebongile Hlubi who said CWAAP is a pilot project that will be implemented for a five year long period in the district between 2025 and 2030.

A cold wave anticipatory action plan is the approach, like an Early Action, designed to minimise the negative impacts of severe cold events by taking actions before the cold wave occurs, focusing on vulnerable populations and essential services.

Ms. Hlubi explained that the plan will be implemented by Lesotho Red Cross Society together with Disaster Management Authority and Lesotho Meteorology Services, adding that it is supported with funds by the International Federation of the Red Crescent (IFRC). lu/tl
