MOHALE’S HOEK— Princess Senate Mohato Seiso has urged the youth to be proud of their culture, saying it is important in preserving dignity and identity among Basotho.
The Princess made the remarks during her visit to Morifi Community High School on Friday, where she addressed students on the importance of education, culture, patriotism and respect.

She said young people should remain vigilant, respectful and confident, noting that every person was created by God with a purpose.
Princess Senate further encouraged the youth to refrain from drug abuse and early marriages. She also expressed appreciation to Mr. James Motlatsi for contributing to the development of education in Morifi through the construction of a community school.
She said education not only opens doors to opportunities, but also equips people with knowledge and skills to solve life challenges. However, she urged the youth not to forget their origins and cultural identity despite the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence and modern technology.

Speaking on behalf of Phamong Principal Chief, Chieftainess Mats’enolo Theko Letsie Bereng thanked the Royal Family for allowing Princess Senate to visit communities and promote Basotho culture among young people.
She said many Basotho were gradually forgetting their roots and requested that a similar visit be organised for Phamong in the presence of Prince Lerotholi Mohato Bereng Seeiso and Princess ‘Maseeiso.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Mekaling Constituency No. 62, Mr. Thabiso Lekitla, urged parents to allow their children to attend initiation schools as part of preserving Basotho culture, while ensuring that they continue with formal education.
He said western influence appeared to be gradually eroding Basotho cultural values and traditions.
On the other hand, 74-year-old cultural icon, ’Mampoi Matete, who received the Ramats’eatsana Award more than 20 years ago and has accompanied Princess Senate during the visits, said the purpose of the school visits was to encourage young people to value their roots and learn more about traditional Basotho games such as Mokhibo.

She added that the Princess was also spreading awareness on the importance of education and discouraging early marriages among the youth.
Morifi Community High School Principal Mrs. Noangelina Debeshe pledged improved LGCSE results in honour of Princess Senate’s visit to the school.
Princess Senate has so far visited schools in Maseru, Berea District, Leribe District, Quthing District, Qacha’s Nek District and Mohale’s Hoek District.
She is expected to continue the programme in Mafeteng District on May 29.
