DATA COLLECTION BEGINS IN MOKHOTLONG, SENQU CONSTITUENCIES

Mokhotlong, April 27 — Population and Housing Census began in two Constituencies of Senqu and Mokhotlong on Monday, Mr. Khokong Thinyane, a District Statistician has said.

Mr. Thinyane explained that Malingoaneng Constituency is the only  Constituency in the district remaining behind but will also start the counting on Friday this week.

He said delay has been caused by shortage of equipment used for data collection that include Tablets and arrival of Enumerators to be trained on census related issues before they could actually embark on this national exercise.

Mr. Thinyane mentioned that data collection in Bobatsi Constituency started on April 19, adding that Mokhotlong district has been allocated a total of 300 enumerators.

“When counting has been done to a household, enumerators put stickers on the door, outside, to show such a family has been counted,” he said.

Census is the process of collecting, compiling and analyzing demographic, economic and social data for all persons in the country.

It provides essential data on population size, distribution and characteristics for planning, policy-making and development.

The Population Census is conducted every 10 years in the country, the last one was in 2016.

According to Census results of 2016 , Mokhotlong has a population of 100,442 people.
