Maseru, April 27 — South African Revenue Service (SARS) has implemented stringe measures for motor vehicles entering South Africa from Lesotho and other countries.
In an interview with Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) Spokesperson, Mr. Thabang Loko explained that implementation of the temporary importation declaration requirement for motor vehicles entering South Africa is a declaration from South African Revenue Services not from Revenue Service Lesotho.
He added that as RSL they have nothing to do with it, how it operates is all upon SARS.
Mr. Loko highlighted that every country has its own way of operations at their services. The same applies with RSL having its own laws and regulations that govern their operations that have to be respected. He indicated that they have no say in how SARS operate.
This is upon the upcoming enforcement of the requirement for all foreign-registered motor vehicles, including those from SACU countries to complete a temporary importation declaration when entering South Africa.
That is said to be effective on June 1, 2026 which is in line with Section 15 of the customs and excise act which mandates the declaration of all goods, including vehicles upon entry.
