DCEO PICKS FROM ITS FLOCK

Maseru, Dec. 03 — One of the officers at the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offenses (DCEO) is reported to have been apprehended by police on Saturday.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Sunday, Mrs. ‘Matlhokomelo Senoko from the DCEO Public Relations Office confirmed the apprehension of the officer showing that his identity will be released as soon as the suspect has appeared before court which she said is anticipated for this week.

She mentioned that the said officer who is working as an investigations officer was arrested in connection with acceptance of bribe.

Mrs. Senoko however mentioned that the said officer remains in police custody while he awaits for his appearance in court.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of DCEO Advocate Knorx Molelle said that they can not be a well functioning anti corruption agency yet corruption is initiated by them therefore a good example must be set.

He indicated that with all the efforts of DCEO, Lesotho is approaching a corruption free time where matters related to corruption will be a thing of the past.

The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offenses (DCEO) is the primary anti corruption organ that investigates corruption complaints against public sector officials.

Its recent success cases include a recovery of 3 motor vehicles and money valued to over M5  million which was part of the over  M50 million which was defrauded from the Lesotho government and was recovered in South Africa.
