DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION KEY TO EFFICIENT SERVICE DELIVERY IN LESOTHO

Maseru, Apr.20 — The manual way of service delivery is considered time-consuming and prone to errors, Mr. Khobatha Setitimela has said.

Speaking during a presentation at the 64th Council Meeting of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) currently underway in Maseru, Mr. Setitimela addressed a session on digital government transformation. The session examined how digital technologies can strengthen public service delivery, improve transparency and enhance citizen engagement in Lesotho.

Mr. Setitimela noted that reliance on manual systems often results in delays, inefficiencies and inconsistencies in service delivery, ultimately affecting the quality of services experienced by citizens.

He said adopting digital solutions can significantly reduce human error, speed up processes and ensure services are delivered in a more reliable and accountable manner.

“Digital transformation is not just about introducing new technologies, but about improving how government interacts with its citizens and responds to their needs,” he said.

Mr. Setitimela further highlighted that digital platforms can enable real-time access to information, making it easier for citizens to access services without unnecessary physical visits to offices.

He also emphasized the importance of building capacity within the public sector to effectively implement and manage digital systems, noting that skills development and infrastructure investment are key to achieving successful digital transformation.

Mr. Setitimela said embracing digital government will position Lesotho to improve service delivery, enhance transparency and foster greater trust between government and citizens.
