Maseru,Aug.21 — The Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development has introduced the Persons with Disabilities Advisory Council in an event held in Maseru on Thursday.
In his opening remarks, the Deputy Principal Secretary of the ministry Mr. Thae Makhetha said the council will amongst others monitor and evaluate the state of the rights of persons with disabilities by advising the government and stakeholders, creating awareness, managing complaints and supporting policy reforms.


He indicated that with this council the government is aiming for an inclusive Lesotho where all persons with disabilities enjoy equal rights, full participation and opportunities for independent living and development.
While officially announcing the Council, the Minister of Gender Youth and Social Development Mr. Pitso Lesaoana said this team stands ready to fulfil their important mandate of promoting, protecting and monitoring the rights of persons with disabilities in the country inline with the persons with disability equity act of 2021 and the country’s commitment to the UN convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.

Mr Lesaoana mentioned that this achievement would not have been possible without the collaboration between the government, development partners, civil society and the disability movement itself. . . . .
