Mohale’s Hoek, Aug.20 — The Exams Council of Lesotho (ECOL)has held a 5-day training for about 15 teachers aimed at developing assessment material for grade 9 learners in alignment with SDG 4.1.1 indicator.
This has been confirmed by ECOL’s Manager Research and Statistics Mrs. ‘Maneo Mohale in an interview with the Agency by asserting that the there is a project titled the Lesotho Education Improvement Programme (LEIP) funded by the World Bank, which has various components, and ECOL is leading Su-Component 1.2, which is focusing on improving the teaching and learning environment in schools.
Mrs. Mohale noted that ECOL is therefore establishing the grade 9 national assessment survey, which was piloted in primary schools in 2003 and became a baseline in 2004, noting since there is has been carried out every other year beginning with grade 4 and 6, adding that this year in line with SDG 4.1.1 indicator, which aims to ensure that by 2030, all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education, the programme has shifted to grade 3 and 7.
She further indicated that there is a tool titled Global Proficiency Framework (GPF) developed by UNESCO, which facilitates the alignment of national and regional assessments with global standards through policy linking, therefore enabling comparisons of results. . . .
