The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition in collaboration with Smallholder Agriculture Development Project (SADP II) held a meeting with Principal Chiefs on Food Production and nutrition in Maseru on Wednesday.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Thabo Mofosi, the goal of the meeting was to discuss the implementation of commitments made between the Ministry and the principal Chiefs to combat the issue of food production and insecurity in the country.
Mr. Mofosi further explained that one of the primary obstacles in addressing food insecurity in Lesotho is the mismanagement of Land.
He also highlighted the ongoing issue of foot and mouth disease which has forced the closure of borders and restricted the importation of meat which will prevent outbreak of the disease in the country.
Sharing same sentiments. Direct of Nutrition Ms. Makamohelo Semoli stated that chiefs have committed to be exemplary in food production and nutrition practices.
