Maseru, Oct.10—The Court of Appeal has heard that a wound on the chest of the late wife of Lits’oene Makhamisa caused her death, but it was not inflicted by him.
Makhamisa who is appealing against his conviction and sentence was charged with the murder of his wife ‘Mathabang Makhamisa whom he stabbed with a knife at Botha Bothe in 2018. He was also charged with arson but was convicted on murder and malicious damage to property by the High Court through its Northern Division.
He was accordingly sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for the murder and one year imprisonment for the other charge. The court ordered that the sentences should run concurrently.
Legal representative for Makhamisa, Advocate Taaso, stated that the appellant only stabbed the deceased on the back, but a post-mortem show that she also had another wound on the chest which resulted in her death.
