Maseru, Aug. 11 — The 77 members of the National Security Service (NSS) who were dismissed from work in 2018 will finally get closure as the High Court is set to deliver a judgment in a case in which they challenged their dismissal.
The applicants were employed in 2016 but later dismissed from work on allegations that their appointments were unlawful. It was further alleged that they were security risks as they had already gone under training and that the panel which decided their appointment was not properly constituted.
They then approached the High Court challenging the dismissal. In 2019, the Court through Retired Justice Semapo Peete ruled in their favour indicating that the Director General NSS acted unlawfully when he fired them.
The matter went on appeal and the Court of Appeal directed that it be remitted to the High Court to be heard by a different judge. It was heard by Justice Keketso Moahloli in 2020. Judgment was delivered in August 2022 and the Court held that it did not have jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
