FILM SHINES LIGHT ON CHILD MARRIAGE

Qacha’s Nek, Feb. 05 — The Morning Star Film Productions, in collaboration with Qacha’s Nek police officers, visited the Qacha’s Nek Correctional Facility on Wednesday to raise awareness about Gender-Based Violence (GBV), with a focus on child marriage.

The visit featured the screening of Nthatisi, a film addressing the harmful practice of marrying of underage girls.

Released in 2021, Nthatisi sheds light on the dangers and consequences of child marriage, a prevalent issue in Qacha’s Nek. Film Director Ms. Mosonngoa Gift Lemena said the initiative comes at a critical time, as the district faces rising GBV cases.

“We joined forces with the police to support their crime prevention efforts. We began with the police, and schools will follow suit, targeting the youth who are often victims. The campaign will run until April 2025,” she explained.
