FORECASTERS, DISASTER MANAGERS ATTEND IBF TRAINING

Johannesburg, May 13 — The time has come for countries to change policies on how climate disasters can be managed through Impact Based Forecasting (IBF) initiative.

The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) Head of Delegation Mr. Kopano Masilo, based in Pretoria, South Africa said this in his opening remarks delivered at a three day IBF training held in Johannesburg from Tuesday.

He encouraged participants who included Forecasters, Disasters Managers and Media to work hard and convince governments on the importance of changing policies on how best climate disasters can be managed through IBF to ensure the lives of communities are saved.

Mr. Masilo said currently resources are deminishing and everybody is really forced to talk about how to invest a small amount of money to create the biggest impact hence the need for decision makers to change the direction in addressing disasters or humanitarian issues. . .
