Maseru, Aug. 12 – At least 24 Lerotholi Polytechnic (Fokothi) students who sought asylum in the Republic of South Africa (RSA) arrived in the country on Saturday (today) morning.
This was revealed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Mr. Lejone Mpotjoane in an interview with the Agency.
Mr. Mpotjoane said the students came back because the temporary asylum, which was granted by RSA expired on Friday, saying they received a call from their South African counterparts indicating that if they do not take such students back home by Friday midnight, they will be arrested for staying in that country illegally.
He said it was also reported that such students were no longer in Ladybrand but walked to Bloemfontein, saying the Ministry’s Officers went to Bloemfontein with two quantums to collect them after negotiations with South African Police.
