GOVERNMENT COMMITTED TO CYBER SECURITY – MOOROSI

MASERU – The Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI), Ms. Nthati Moorosi says, the government is committed to prioritising cyber security.

Ms. Moorosi said this when officially closing the sixth Southern African Development Community (SADC) Countries Cyber Drill and Africa-Cert meeting in Maseru on Friday.

She highlighted that stabilising security centres is also part of their agenda in the quest to re-affirm the government’s obligation in as far as security in the cyber space is concerned.

Ms. Moorosi explained with concern the cyber-crimes and attacks targeted to the most vulnerable groups namely; the aged and persons with disabilities, expressing hope that the meeting has touched on this issue as well.

Over and above that, Minister Moorosi said through this meeting, competence has been built, urging participants to implement recommendations of this gathering, so that the region can stay resilient against any form of attacks in the cyber space.

Furthermore, she appreciated organisers of the drill who ensured youth participation at the meeting, indicating they are  future leaders, thus should be equipped with skills at an early stage.

Meanwhile, SADC Secretariat, Dr. George Ah-Thew thanked participants for committing holistically and actively to deliberations of this meeting. He also re-affirmed SADC commitment to supporting its member states for the attainment of a digital agenda. . .
