HERDERS URGED TO PROTECT WETLANDS, RANGES

Mokhotlong Aug.16 — Herders have been urged to protect wetlands and ranges by stopping to graze over them.

The Range Technical Officer Mr. Thuso Paneng said made the appeal during a climate change awareness session held at Libibing in the district on Wednesday.

Mr. Paneng said herders are the owners who destroy wetlands and ranges by letting livestock to graze over them adding that they should stop since destroying the environment is illegal.

He said they should stop to avoid legal measure to be taken against them.

He explained that ranges should be protected by not opening wildfire on them as that damage the ecosystem and biodiversity found at such places.

Mr. Paneng mentioned that wetlands are essential for quality water needed by both people and livestock and when herders continue taking livestock to wetlands, water sources will dry out. . .
