Botha-Bothe, July 16 — In appreciation of the celebrations leading up to his birthday tomorrow, His Majesty King Letsie III delivered a speech to thousands of Basotho gathered at Ha Molato.
He pointed out that this year, his birthday is celebrated as Lesotho marks 200 years of existence. He called on every Mosotho to spread the message of peace and love within villages and families to foster an environment of peace and harmony.
“In church today, we were reminded that Basotho are beautiful people, but this beauty fades the moment we engage in unacceptable actions like killing each other.
“This, therefore, calls for Basotho to return to their roots and remember that we are a nation built by someone who adored and respected peace in all forms.
“Yesterday’s tour to Mopeli plateau was very insightful and all the information I received from the historians will be cherished forever, along with the warm welcome I received from the Botha-Bothe people,” he said.
He further thanked the nation for the gifts he and Her Majesty received and expressed gratitude to everyone who supported the event. He also extended his thanks on behalf of those who received gifts in his name and encouraged people to continue giving to those in need.
Among the gifts for the day were a cake from the Lesotho National Development Cooperation (LNDC) and donations of blankets and shoes to the needy from Mukuru.
Her Majesty was given a blanket and a hat by the Hatooa Mose Mosali organization and Mopeli women chiefs.
His Majesty also received two sheep from the men of Ha Molapo.
