Maseru, Sept. 26 — In line with the theme ‘Empowering Truth in the Age of Artificial Intelligence AI,’ Digital Innovators are attending their annual summit held in Maseru on Friday.
Organised by Sky Alpha HD and it’s supporters, the summit was officiated by the Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI), Mr. Kanono Ramashamole.
In his remarks, the PS said this year’s theme guided by AI Policy in place, will promote intelligent control systems to strengthen deliverables in areas of health, agriculture and technology.
In addition, he said Communication Act 2012 is being reviewed to ensure that innovators and entrepreneurs deploy agricultural skills for innovation driven.
“As government, we are confident AI has potential to save lives and lower costs for communities, including those in rural areas.” He stressed.
The PS said with Lesotho now being part of Smart Africa Alliance, it means innovators can be plugged along with their counterparts so that they access opportunities for the development of Lesotho.
Similarly, Mr. Tello Leballo, Sky High HD Founder, noted that this summit is Lesotho’s leading platform that bring in stakeholders to harness technology as AI has changed how work is done while also transforming knowledge.
He alluded that with the 2025 Digital Strategy showing that many in rural areas still have no access to internet, the need to engage in forums such as these ones remain vital.
In the same note, Mr. Ntoane Lepota, Deputy Rector at Lerotholi Polytechnic where the summit is held said this is an exciting summit especially seeing that it has also brought together their students with industry experts.
“This event comes at an opportune time when we celebrate 120 years marking the existence of the institution.” He stressed
He alluded that digital innovators are problem solvers who are committed to bringing solutions as pace setters beyond internet and AI for the benefit of the society.
On behalf of UNDP, Mr. Morapeli Sekamane said their agency facilitated housing of the UNIPOD at LP, as they learnt through this hub of technology achieving all digital dreams seem possible.
“In solidarity, we can come together as Innovators to achieve our dreams.” He stressed.
