Maseru, Jan.21—-Through the launch of five rehabilitated children’s court, the judiciary together with the European Union (EU), World Vision and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) under Citizens Voice Addressing Violence Against Children (CVAVAC) Project, will achieve the goal of creating child-friendly environment within the justice system.
Speaking at the launch held in Maseru, Chief Justice Sakoane Sakoane stated that children’s court is there to serve the children and protect them. He emphasised that the refurbished courts should operate and be used to strengthen the justice system in the country.
He indicated that children’s courts should not be used to try adults even if they committed offences against children. He said problematic children should be corrected and provided with counselling so that they avoid being in conflict with the law and come to court…
