KARATE ENHANCES MENTAL, PHYSICAL FITNESS – DAMAZANE

MASERU – The President of the Lesotho Karate Association (LKA), Mr. Chabeli Damazane, says karate is more than a martial art as it helps to build discipline while improving both mental and physical fitness.

Mr. Damazane said this in an interview with the Agency on Saturday following what he described as a successful karate camp held at the National Health Training College (NHTC) during the schools’ winter holidays.

The camp was attended by students from different schools across the country.

He said karate plays an important role in helping young people avoid social challenges such as drug and alcohol abuse, enabling them to remain focused on achieving their goals.

According to Mr. Damazane, who is also a Mathematics teacher at Abia High School, karate teaches much more than self-defence.

He said it develops discipline, promotes physical fitness, strengthens mental health and requires a high level of concentration.

He explained that when a person is mentally focused, it becomes easier to make wise decisions that have a positive impact on their future and overall wellbeing.

Mr. Damazane therefore encouraged young people to take part in karate, saying the sport helps them to grow into healthy and disciplined individuals while improving their performance at school.

He also expressed appreciation to the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), through the Office of Boot Campers, for partnering with the association to promote karate among learners during the winter school holidays.

The Agency established that schools which participated in the camp included Abia High School, Mapoteng High School and Morija Girls High School, among others.

The Lesotho Karate Association was established to promote karate in the country and support individuals who are passionate about the sport.
