Mokhotlong, Feb.11 — Some members of the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) were sensitised on Copyright Order 1989 and Broadcasting, Communication to the Public and Public Performance Tarrifs No.114 of 2024 at a meeting held in the district on Tuesday.
Lesotho Copyright Society of Authors and Artists (LESCOSAA) Legal and Licensing Manager Adv. Moeti Marai said there is need to create awareness of the documents to enhance enforcement, while protecting and promoting the interests of authors, artists and performers in the country.
He said the issue of protecting local artists with their music is long overdue hence a series of sensitisation meetings to those expected to enforce the law.
Adv. Marai said LESCOSAA, a non-profit organisation established under Section 31 of the Copyright Order of 1989, is mandated to collect and distribute royalties so that its members can benefit from their artistic work.. .
