Maseru, Aug. 11 — Despite the fact that women have for years been traditionally excluded from leadership roles in some industries such as construction, engineering and other related fields, there has been a significant change in Lesotho taxi industry.
While this change might be perceived as modernization, climate change, illnesses coupled with the economic meltdown have forced women to come out of their comfort zones, lead and provide for their families.
The Agency has learnt that women in Lesotho have joined the taxi industry as drivers although the number is still below four percent.
Speaking in an interview with the Agency, a 4+1 mini taxi owner and driver Mrs. Makomane Majoro said although she is supported by some of her male colleagues, she is usually undermined by some passengers who in most cases question her driving skills, knowledge of routes and sustainability for the profession.
