LESOTHO INTENDS TO APPEAL – DPM

Maseru, Jan.16 — Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara says that the government of Lesotho intends to appeal against the judgement granted by the South African High Court on January 12, 2024 on Frazer Solar.

Last Friday, the South African High Court threw out the government of Lesotho’s case to overturn Frazer Solar’s arbitration award. The Judge dismissed the case and ordered the government of Lesotho to pay costs to Frazer Solar and the South African Ministry of Justice.  The value of Frazer Solar’s claim including interest and costs is estimated to be €58 million (US $64 million, M1.2 billion).

Justice Majara said that they intend to appeal as a government, but their lawyers are still to study the judgment saying that if it happens that they eventually appeal it will be subject to legal advice.

She said that when a case is in court even if they are the government there is nothing they can do except wait for court processes. . .
