LESOTHO ON TRACK WITH CONSTITUENCY DEMARCATION, VOTER REGISTRY

Maseru, Aug. 23 – The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says Lesotho is on the right path in preparing for the 2027 general elections, with notable progress made in constituency demarcation and the maintenance of a credible voter’s registry.

In an interview, Mrs. Lydia Macheli, Senior Manager of Civic and Voter Education,stated that while the commission has achieved significant milestones, certain gaps remain.

Mrs. Macheli pointed to the absence of formal regulations on constituency demarcation and related processes, an issue she said needs urgent attention to strengthen the legal framework of electoral administration.

She, however, commended the collaborative spirit between IEC and its stakeholders, noting that political parties, civil society organisations, and development partners have offered immense support.

This, she said, has boosted the commission’s capacity to deliver on its mandate.

Currently, IEC is rolling out district-level training sessions for its staff across the country.
