LESOTHO TAKES STEP TOWARDS STRENGTHENING DATA GOVERNANCE SYSTEM

Maseru, July 26 — Lesotho has taken a major step towards strengthening its data governance systems by hosting a four-day regional workshop aimed at aligning its national policies with the African Union Data Policy Framework (AUDPF).

Organised by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), in collaboration with International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA) and the Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet), the workshop is underway in Maseru and brings together key stakeholders from across the country.

The event marks a significant milestone in Lesotho’s efforts to domesticate the AUDPF, which was adopted in February 2022 to guide African nations in building strong data systems that uphold data rights, support digital trade, and promote inclusive socio-economic development.

The focus will be on capacity building, led by KICTANet, and cover critical areas such as data infrastructure, data markets, standardisation, and governance mechanisms. These sessions aim to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to harness data as a driver of equitable development and citizen empowerment.
