Maseru, Aug. 27 — Thaba-Bosiu Mokhibo group ‘Linotsí’ is planning to strengthen its efforts to mentor young people and instil in them a love for Basotho culture.
Speaking to the Agency following the launch of the Thaba-Bosiu Mokhorong oa Khotla identity and branding initiative, group member Mrs ‘Makhopotso Matela said the initiative would create opportunities for young people to engage in cultural activities.
She said previous efforts by the group to involve young people in Mokhibo and encourage appreciation of culture had not attracted much interest.
Mrs. Matela said the new Thaba-Bosiu Mokhorong oa Khotla logo and branding initiative would open up various opportunities and expressed hope that young people would be inspired to learn about their culture and explore opportunities that could help address unemployment.
She said tourism was one of the areas that could contribute to improving the livelihoods of young people, particularly given Thaba-Bosiu’s rich historical heritage.
Mrs. Matela urged young people to participate in initiatives around Thaba-Bosiu so that they could also benefit from the opportunities created by the development of the area as a tourism destination.
Meanwhile, Thaba-Bosiu Development Association member Mr. Mojaki Maqalane said the association also aims to ensure that children learn from an early age about the important role culture can play in tourism and in shaping their future.
He said the branding initiative will provide an opportunity for young people to use their creativity and develop different ways of promoting and utilising the Thaba-Bosiu Mokhorong oa Khotla identity.
The Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) has also been involved in initiatives aimed at promoting tourism among young people, including the annual Travel and Tourism Learners Competition.
