LTTU DENIES ALLEGATIONS

Maseru, Mar. 12 — Lesotho Teachers Trade Union (LTTU) has denied allegations making rounds on social media that they have bought sites at illegal mining commonly known as Litotomeng in South Africa.

This comes after reports made on March 01 that about M187,000 of the members are missing from the union’s Mpesa account. The money was for contributions made by the members for their upcoming Association of Non-Aligned Teachers’ Unions of Southern Africa (ANTUSA) games to be held in Mpumalanga South Africa on March 29.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, LTTU Secretary General Mrs. ‘Mamoholoane Folene refuted that they bought a site but confirmed that the money went missing in the hands of LTTU Account Clerk.

However, she was quick to indicate that they are currently internally dealing with the matter.

On the other hand, in an audio clip sent to the members, Mrs. Folene has confirmed to the members that they have found during their investigations that the missing money has been used by one Lefu Motsoaole Account Clerk at LTTU.

On one hand some of the disgruntled LLTU told the Agency that they are surprised that to date the union has not reported the matter to the police. They went on to indicate that the said Accounts Clerk is still in LTTU office as if nothing has happened.

“We are afraid that the date for the trip is approaching and the money has not been recovered which means the trip might be cancelled,” they said.

Moreover efforts to speak to Mr. Motsoaole were futile as his phone was not available.

Meanwhile the Agency has discovered that LTTU Treasurer Mr. Retšelisitsoe Motloi has resigned from the position.

LTTU promotes the interests of teachers and defends them against any legislation and measures which can be contrary to the interest of members.
