MAQELEPO LAUNCHES LIQUOR LAW ENFORCEMENT CAMPAIGN

Maseru, Dec. 11 — The Minister of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture, Mr. Motlatsi Maqelepo, on Thursday launched a nationwide campaign to enforce liquor consumption legal frameworks.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Maqelepo expressed concern over the excessive waste, such as beverage cans and alcohol containers scattered in public places, saying it creates an unpleasant environment for both residents and tourists.

He said the campaign seeks to reduce alcohol abuse, prevent the sale of alcohol to minors and ensure that alcohol is sold only in licensed premises and within legally permitted operating hours.

“We will focus on public awareness and behaviour change, enforcing and regulating the law, confiscating illegal alcohol, creating alcohol free activities for young people, providing entrepreneurship and leadership programmes and mobilizing communities,” Mr. Maqelepo said.
